What size shed do I need?
Think about the different items you will want to store there, and don’t forget all the little bits and pieces: lawnmower, furniture, tools, bike, flower pots during the winter… You can size up a space using, for example, 4 bottles of water to understand what you might need, and perhaps to test it.
The “hors tout” [overall] figure is for the roof, or the maximum space taken up by the shed. The figure for “extérieure au sol” [outside surface area] is the largest amount of space the outside surface takes up (including the floor overlap for solid sheds). The “intérieure” [inside] figure (or usable surface area) is the amount of space you can actually use for storage. The “hauteur au faîte” [roof height] is the height up to the top of the roof. The “hauteur au côté” [side height] is the height up to the bottom of the roof.
Construction
What’s the difference between panelled sheds and solid sheds?
Panelled sheds are built using standardised panels, 12, 15 or 19 mm thick, which are secured using nails or fixed to a frame. These panels are screwed together to create the shed. The solid sheds are made up of grooved planks, 19, 28, 34 or 44 mm thick, which are put together without a frame.
Wooden floor
How do I know if my shed has a floor, or whether I need one?
Panelled sheds have a floor as standard, and solid sheds do not (optional extra). The floor is needed if the shed is to be assembled on wedges, but optional on concrete screed.
The installation
On what surface do I need to assemble my shed?
Small or light sheds (small, panelled sheds, 19 or 28 mm, maximum 6 m2) with floors can be assembled on raised blocks or solid paving stones, a minimum of 5 cm must be left between the ground and the bottom of the floor. Make sure you remove any grass under the blocks before assembly. Medium-sized sheds with floors can be assembled on support blocks on a foundation with secure ballasts around a solid base. Larger or heavier sheds (34 and 44mm) must be mounted on concrete at least 15 cm thick, with metal reinforcements and a gel barrier. A concrete surface is best for all types of shed.
Do I need to worry about strong winds?
Your shed should be constructed in a place that is sheltered from strong winds, and fixed to the ground if mounted on blocks or concrete slabs, or ballasted if on wedges.
How long will it take to assemble my shed?
It is hard to be precise, but allow about 50 minutes/m2 for sheds between 4 and 12 m2 and 40 minutes/m2 for larger sheds. It is easier to do some parts of the process with someone else. (This time excludes ground preparation and treatment.)
How do I assemble my shed?
Full, detailed instructions including pictures, advice and a parts list is included (see downloads on this site). We strongly recommend that you read the instructions and parts list thoroughly before starting assembly.
What do I need to assemble my shed?
Everything you need is supplied. You will need a screw gun, a hammer, wire cutters or pliers and a sharp knife.
Can I tile my roof?
Our structures are not built to bear the weight of concrete or terracotta tiles, but there are alternatives such as metal or synthetic tiles.
Wood and its treatment
What should I use to treat my shed?
Your shed must be treated with 1 coat on the inside and 2 outside, before assembly, with a protective product for wood for the fungicides and pesticides (to protect against fungus and insects). You can finish off with coloured wood treatments. You should touch up the wood once you see signs of wear. Roof tiles and the floor should also be treated. Do this in the shade, at a medium temperature and let the parts dry vertically.
What do I need to know about the wood?
Fir is a living material which doesn’t stop growing, and it can show some signs of change (some buckling or warping), cracks, knurling and pockets of resin. This is normal and does not affect the longevity of your shed. A simple solution is to use wood filler (not provided). For fitted sheds, please note that all the planks have a good side which should be facing the outside (the concealed side may have some flaws including planning, bark, cracks, etc.).
The legislation
What legislation is there for putting up sheds?
Legislation is complicated: we recommend that you consult your local authority or council – you should submit the product sheet available on this site to them.
Storing before installation
How should I store my shed before assembly?
Store in a ventilated, dry place, away from sunlight and bad weather (the packaging is not watertight). The package and parts must be kept flat to avoid any distortion. Assemble the shed as soon as possible after receiving the product (the time limit for after-sales services is 10 days maximum after the date the item is purchased).
The warranty
What guarantee comes with the shed?
All of our products are subject to a statutory two-year guarantee in case of any flaws, faulty parts or design faults.
